Revit integration

Importing is a core process of One Click LCA. It is built on a patent-pending technology for transforming models to life-cycle impact assessments. This page concerns the use of the One Click LCA® in connection with Revit.
Make sure you have the things listed below before starting:
  • One Click LCA user account
  • Autodesk Revit 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019  or 2020 version installed (please note that Revit LT does not support any plugins, accepted versions are also listed in the Revit Store)
  • An existing project in the user account with a valid license

The new plugin introduces a fix for the results not being calculated. This new plugin version is available for Revit versions 2018, 2019 and 2020. 



How do you set up the Revit Integration?

Where can I download it?

  1. You can download the plugin from the Revit store. In the store search for 'One Click LCA' and follow the steps for downloading the plugin.
  2. You can also download it from the attachments on this guidance page. If you download it from this page you will need to unzip it first. The plugin is digitally signed by Bionova Ltd, however, your operating system may ask you to confirm if you wish to proceed with the installation. In such a case, choose Allow / Yes, as applicable.
  3. For Revit 2016 and 2017 download: One Click LCA Setup Revit 2.1
  4. For Revit 2018, 2019 and 2020 download: One Click LCA Setup Revit 2.2

How do I install it?

The plugin installs seamlessly without options. Download Revit plug-in from the Revit store or from the attachments at the bottom of the page. Unzip it and install it. 

How to use the Revit Integration

Watch our tutorial video of the tool basic functionalities and test the web interface so that you’ll know how the tool works before working in the plug-in and exporting the model to the web-interface.

Step 1: Open your project on Revit and make sure you’ll have a Revit model in which the materials are defined.

If the model only contains names like “Default wall” or “External wall type 1” you will not be able to get the materials directly from the model. The model can still be used but it will require some extra steps.
To be able to isolate objects in the Revit model using One Click LCA Add-in, please make sure that you are in 3D view. The view can be selected by navigating to View tab and pressing on “3D view” as seen in the screenshot.


Step 2: If the model seems valid you can click the One Click LCA button in Revit and you will be taken to the One Click LCA plug-in to continue the process.



You will be able to analyse your model and define all necessary for the export in the plug-in by using different functions:
  1. Define the phases and linked models. These tabs are only active if linked models or multiple phases are defined. The phases tab selects the current phase by default; and it allows only one phase at a time to avoid duplicate materials exporting. If you use a linked model, please make sure it is defined which model is chosen, select or de-select models if needed.
  2. Select the material scope you wish to include in your analysis in the Categories tab. You can also choose the unit in which the materials are exported.
You will be able to map your materials to their environmental profiles in the Materials tab (that can be also done in the web interface, after the export). 
  1. View the mapped materials with Isolate Material.
  2. Show LCA profile feature enables to see the details of the selected environmental profile (need to be logged in).
  3. Filter all the categories and choose 'none' to reset.
  4. Skip 2D layers enables to skip materials with zero thickness (these rows also show warning and cannot be converted to volume).
  5. Map to One Click LCA data and choose additional materials (if composite material) and their share (e.g. concrete and reinforcement).

Step 3: Save your mappings (need to be logged in) so you can continue mapping when reopening the model.

Step 4: See Results to analyse your design carbon impacts.

Step 5: Add Cost data if using One Click LCC tool.

Step 6: Click 'Run LCA' to export your model to One Click LCA web-interface.

Frequently asked questions

How do I import from Revit LT?

Revit LT does not support any plugins and therefore exporting data from Revit LT to One Click LCA can be a bit tricky. We have come up with a workaround that uses Excel to get your Revit LT results to our platform.

Step 1. Create a multi-category material takeoff in Revit LT, then export this to Excel
The first step is to create a material takeoff in Revit with the following headings you should include in the schedule from Revit.
'Category' + 'Material: Name' + 'Material: Volume' + 'Family' + 'Type

After you have done this, export the material takeoff to Excel.

Step 2. Rename the headings
In order for One Click LCA to read the excel properly, you will need to rename the headings in the following order.

'Category' rename to 'CLASS'
'Material: Name' rename to 'IFCMATERIAL'
'Material: Volume' rename to 'QUANTITY'
'Family' rename to 'COMMENT'
'Type' rename to 'TYPE'

Step 3. Insert additional column QTY_TYPE
Revit LT does not export the quantity type, however for One Click LCA it is very important that the quantity type is defined.
Define a new column 'QTY_TYPE'. 

Step 4. Insert the quantity types for each row
Accepted values are:  (metric) KG, M2, M3, UNIT / (imperial) LBS, CU YD, SQ FT, UNIT

Please note that if you are using area (M2 or SQ FT) you’ll also need to provide additional column called THICKNESS and provide a value in MM (millimeter) / IN (inch) unit.
